Future of Business Travel in India

The current covid-19 pandemic has impacted corporate travels in a broader spectrum. As per the survey conducted by EY and ICF in September 2020, 78 percent of the total respondents stated that their companies had imposed travel restrictions for business travel due to the pandemic. But still, 22 percent of these companies will continue their business travel.

In another survey that was conducted in April 2021, 37% of respondents said that their companies have decided to resume domestic business travel within two to three months. Contradictory to that 10% of respondents exclaimed that their companies will start foreign business travel within the same period.

The scenario has changed after the vaccine entered the market. Now, the business travel trend is expected to grow more amid Covid-19 vaccinations. The new generation of business travel has inspired a lot of new corporate travel trends. One of those trends is unconventional accommodation that means small hotels and home-like accommodations, as offered by Airbnb, enjoy increased popularity amongst corporate travel today.

The upgrading technology will also create an impact on the future business trends in India. Smartphones and the internet have transformed the way we search, book, and pay for travel.

The up-gradation will also give independence to the young business travelers to opt for travel options and accommodations on their own. A recent survey has shown that 68 percent of employees book business travel through tools not approved by the company.

The travel policies are also likely to be more efficient and easy-going. Dynamic policies will have a higher adoption rate that will help business travelers to have variations in terms of planning their business travel.

More or less the future of India’s business travel is also depending upon the degradation of the Covid-19 Pandemic. Most destinations will come up with a retrieval policy in which mark-downs and plenty of high-value packages could be a part of the incentive to return to travel.

In conclusion, it is not easy to speculate anything as we are currently in a blind spot where we don’t know how long this is going to continue. We can only pray and hope for a horizon that brings with it positive signs of the effects of the virus fading. However, we are optimistic that once that happens, we will move back on track with greater force.

Thank you so much for reading this patiently. I appreciate you and your time.
